What is Marketing Communications?

Marketing communications creates the foundation for all messaging in a company. In essence, it is responsible for communicating who the company is, what it looks like and what it stands for – internally and externally.

The role of a marketing communications manager is to deeply understand the company’s vision and positioning in the marketplace as well as each product or solution the company markets. Taking all of this information in, the manager must craft the messaging platforms that are translated into the visual and written languages which form the identity of the company. Even though marketing communications is mainly responsible for outbound marketing activities targeting customers and prospective customers, the marketing communications manager still needs to work closely with product marketing, channel marketing, public relations and various other teams to ensure all internal and external messages are consistent –  ultimately strengthening the company’s brands.
